School Policies

General Student Guidelines and Expectations. These guidelines apply to all times and places.

BE RESPECTFUL · BE RESPONSIBLE · BE SAFE

  • Students are expected to treat others like they want to be treated. (Luke 6:31).  Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to, the following: name-calling; fighting, bullying, or intentionally hurting another; dishonesty; disrespectful speech or profanity of any kind; disrespectful actions toward any staff member or student; and/or destruction of property. Students are not allowed to harass, intentionally annoy, or menace another either verbally or physically. Menacing includes attempting to place another person in fear of injury. Continuous comments directed at a student which the student finds embarrassing or insulting may also be considered harassment.  Students should always be considerate of others with their speech and behavior.  Name-calling, teasing, and derogatory speech are considered inappropriate and disrespectful.  Demeaning looks and facial expressions are also considered disrespectful and unkind.
  • Students are expected to be courteous, cooperative and prompt in their obedience to all school personnel and to all other students.
  • Students are expected to be considerate of other students' learning needs (i.e., for quiet, support and encouragement).
  • Students are expected to be responsible for their own property. Personal property brought to school must be labeled and kept in a secure place. The school or teacher is not responsible for lost items.
  • Students are expected to assist in the maintenance of a clean school by refraining from littering and by cleaning up after themselves at lunch and in their classrooms.
  • Students are expected to use good manners and quiet voices when indoors.
  • Students are not allowed to bring any potentially dangerous item(s) or substance(s) to school.
  • Students who ride bikes or skateboards to school must keep them secure during school hours.
  • Students are allowed to play only those games that promote healthy, positive fun. Inappropriate games are those that promote or cause fighting or ungodly behavior.
  • Students are expected to stay in the designated play areas only.
  • Students are expected to abide by all school rules.

Student Dress and Appearance

Students are to dress in a way that is consistent with the mission and curriculum of the school and that will not interfere with the school's learning environment.

The general guideline for student clothing is understood to be clothing that is clean, modest, and appropriate for student activities and surroundings.  Knowing that our culture today broadly defines the meanings of "modest and appropriate," CCS, HCMS, and HCHS shall rely on the following in applying these guiding terms during school hours and activities:

Standard Dress Code

  • Clothing should be clean, modest and appropriate for student activities and surroundings.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times while at school.

Students shall not wear:

  • Articles of clothing that advertise or promote the use of alcohol, tobacco or drug products, or that display or imply sexually suggestive words or pictures.
  • Clothing that is provocative, including but not limited to, halter or spaghetti strap tops, short skirts that go above mid-thigh when seated, and articles of clothing that reveal midriff, cleavage, legs above the mid-thigh, or buttocks.  Appropriate undergarments shall be worn but not visible.
  • Articles of clothing, jewelry, emblems, badges, symbols, signs or other objects which are commonly considered evidence of membership or affiliation with any gangs or that threaten the health or safety of any person, including the wearer.

Dress code exception for men:

Shirts must be worn while on campus except when involved with P.E. or supervised athletic activities.

Dress code exception for women:

The modesty guidelines will be followed for all school events, with the exception that spaghetti straps and strapless gowns that meet the other modesty guidelines will be allowed at formal events.

The administration will make a final determination as to the appropriateness of clothing if a question arises.
