An immunization form must be completed by the parent or physician and submitted to the school office prior to the start of school. This is a requirement that must be adhered to in order to be in compliance with state health and safety codes. Your cooperation and assistance with this matter is essential and appreciated.
Students should not be sent to school with any of the following conditions: fever, vomiting, pinkeye, bad colds, or any other contagious conditions. **Twenty-four hours should pass before a child is sent to school after vomiting or having a fever. The school office needs to be notified in case of contagious conditions such as chicken pox, head lice, strep throat, etc.
In the event the school is closed due to health concerns related to a highly contagious disease such as SARS, the school will consider extending the school year into the summer to cover the lost days. Because the ability to extend the school year would depend on a variety of factors, such as availability of staff, the cost, etc., extending the number of school days is not guaranteed.
Occasionally a student must receive medication during the school day. In such cases, prescription and over-the-counter medication must be brought to the school office in the original container. An instructional note, signed and dated by the parent, must accompany the medication.
Please note: HCMS staff are not allowed to administer medication to any student unless the above conditions are met.
